I would love to own a GA Precision or Surgeon rifle someday but this will have to do for now. First, the .308 is a more powerful round until well beyond what could be considered an ethical hunting range. My first Ruger was their Model 77 in .300 Win Mag, and it was a shooter no doubt about it and to this day, I cant remember if I sold or traded it for something else. Out of the box, 90 minutes on the range with a $109 scope. I get it: each person can use their guns for whatever application they want. After barrel breakin, it is a consistent half inch gun out to 800 yards. Keep in mind that I have attended a precision rifle match once in my life. I wanted to make sure I was giving it my best effort. I still dont understand why this is better/worth ~$300 more than a ~$900 DPMS AR-10 that can shoot ~1 moa. You can read it all on the Ruger web site. There is a reason why custom barrels cost more than factory ones, and there is a reason why serious competitors shoot them exclusively. No its not an RPR, and you actually have to put in a little work to get it, but that same 10 pound gun is now an accurate action mounted/torqued in an all aluminum chassis and will perform as good, if not better than the RPR. Im glad I bought it! Web.308 Win with 1:10 RH twist, 20 in (51 cm) barrel, weighing 9.8 lb (4.4 kg) [3] 6mm Creedmoor with a 1:7.7 RH twist, 24 in (61 cm) barrel, weighing 10.8 lb (4.9 kg) [4] Youll need it with that short barrel. When will the madness end? Sub-2 MOA accuracy at 500 yards is still fitting five bullets inside the vital zone of anything on four legs that can feed a family of four, and well within the confines of a 10-inch diameter circle. I got a Remington 700 LTR, which also has a 20 barrel, but Im guessing it will probably be a better 800 yrd. I dont do much reloading these days, because I simply dont have the time. I am indeed a gun nut, that was disguised as a radio nut, who, to poor to buy another gun, bot radios instead. Those who have read my review of the 6.5 will know full how I feel about that gun. They are virtually identical, but the Creedmoor is a tad faster, and because it is a modern rifle, and sold as a precision rifle, and factory ammunition is tailored for accuracy at long ranges, the rifle will likely be more accurate straight out of the box. COPYRIGHT 2021, THETRUTHABOUTGUNS.COM. They are OK up at 800 yds. Second, the Creedmore is just as powerful as the harder recoiling .308 downrange due to its higher BC. Now that Ruger has this rifle I see it as an ideal platform for a Scout. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Folded length is 31.60-inches and it is easy to fold the stock closed. Brand: Ruger. It takes every bit of 500 yards to for the Creedmore to catch up with the .308 energy wise, but theres two ways to look at that. As for this particular rifle, I do not know why anyone would be surprised that Ruger is turning out rifles with inconsistent accuracy. That guy did more for barrel length arguments than anyone ever. I am not personally familiar with the 308s as far as what they are capable of, but Ive never heard of anyone unable to get them to shoot easily under 1 MOA average with around .5 bests. Could it be that longer barrels produce better real-world results, especially past 100 yards? Uh, the Czech ammo hit the plate over and over again using the same come-up data. I treated the .308 the same way, but I fed it a lot more variety in ammo, and it just never consistently performed for me. While this may not sound like a lot, it really is, when you are demanding all the accuracy you can get out of yourself and a rifle. Id go outside and yell at clouds, but today in Wyoming it is a low overcast, so it would be a pointless diatribe on my part in all directions. As these weight savings came from the muzzle end of things, the .308 version is much faster to shoulder and doesnt fatigue the support arm with offhand shooting. Its like buying a safari rifle and faulting it because it has too much recoil to shoot prairie dogs all day. These new ELD bullets have MUCH better physical characteristics than the 168 gr. Im not humping a 13 pound rifle to chase deer and pigs, so this new Ruger is a welcome sight. Youll see the old school vindicated. At 100 yards, no. And truthfully, I really do feel that in the hands of someone looking to optimize its accuracy, it could have done better.
